On Saturday, October 18, 2025, the Bay Area came together for a day of hope, unity, and purpose at the 25th Annual Bay Area Peninsula Walk & Roll to Cure ALS, held at the scenic Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo. The event brought together hundreds of participants—families, friends, caregivers, and supporters—all walking and rolling to raise awareness and critical funds to support those living with ALS.

Hosted by the ALS Network (formerly ALS Golden West), the Walk & Roll to Cure ALS is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a movement of compassion and community. Every stride taken and every donation made directly supports ALS Network’s mission to drive discoveries for prevention, treatment, and cures, to provide access to quality care, and to improve health outcomes for people living with this devastating disease.

A Day of Purpose and Connection

The energy at Coyote Point was electric. Teams arrived early, decorated in colorful shirts and banners honoring loved ones battling ALS, those they’ve lost, and those still fighting. The event included live music, community booths, and heartfelt speeches that reminded everyone why this cause matters so deeply. For many, it was not just about walking—it was about connection, courage, and remembering that no one faces ALS alone.

Volunteers, local businesses, and community groups came together to make the day a success. The funds raised from the event provide essential support for ALS Network’s care programs, equipment loans, and advocacy initiatives—ensuring that individuals and families receive the resources and hope they need.

Team Mavo: Leading with Heart

Among the many participants, Team Mavo once again shined brightly. Inspired by Chris Mavo, whose resilience and spirit continue to touch everyone who knows him, Team Mavo was recognized as the largest fundraising team for the second year in a row.

Their impact goes beyond the dollars raised—their presence symbolizes what community looks like when compassion turns into action. With the unwavering support of family, friends, and advocates, Team Mavo continues to be a driving force behind the event’s success. Their commitment reminds us all that even in the face of challenges, hope can unite people in extraordinary ways.

Continuing the Mission

Events like the Bay Area Peninsula Walk & Roll to Cure ALS demonstrate the power of collective action. While ALS remains a complex and relentless disease, the momentum built by community events like this continues to fuel progress—bringing researchers, caregivers, and advocates closer to a world without ALS.

The ALS Network uses funds from events like this to expand outreach, accelerate research partnerships, and strengthen patient services across California and beyond. The organization’s rebranding from ALS Golden West reflects its growing commitment to connecting communities and driving global collaboration in the fight against ALS.

Moving Forward Together

As the sun set over San Mateo Bay, participants left the event with a renewed sense of purpose. The smiles, the hugs, and the stories shared that day served as powerful reminders of why the fight against ALS must continue.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of everyone involved—especially teams like Team Mavo—the Bay Area Peninsula Walk & Roll continues to be one of the ALS Network’s most impactful community events. Together, we’re proving that even small steps can lead to monumental change.

Together, we walk. Together, we roll. Together, we move closer to a cure.
